The Juneau Economy Cheat Sheet 2025

Juneau’s top three economic sectors are the following:

1. State Government remains Juneau’s largest economic sector. It is the community’s #1 wage provider and #2 jobs provider. Historically, the State of Alaska has long been Juneau’s largest employer, so this marks a recent shift.
2. The Visitor Sector is now Juneau’s #1 jobs provider—even after converting seasonal positions into year-round-equivalent jobs. It is also tied for #2 wage provider, generating $146 million in workforce earnings in 2024.
3. Healthcare (including both public and private employment) is tied as Juneau’s #2 wage provider and is also tied as the community’s #4 jobs provider.
